Rally for more than meeting with Spanier
The rally held by Black Caucus on the Old Main steps had more than just one single purpose. The article written in the Collegian (" Black Caucus rallies for meeting," April 19) said that the rally was "to request a meeting with Penn State President Spanier," but for those who attended the rally, it was much more than for that one reason. The letters that were signed for Spanier stated "Racism is an all too common occurrence on PSU campus." There was no mention in the Collegian article about all the other groups who spoke out at the rally about their own personal experiences right here at Penn State. The speakers at the rally included LGBTA, Muslim, Jewish, Asian, Hispanic and black students. The rally was about coming together for a common purpose; trying to eradicate racism and bigotry. This can only be done by public awareness and change. Racism is not just an issue faced by Black Caucus alone. If something affects your fellow humans, then certainly would you not want to do something to help them? Sarah Sinanan
