I must say I was rather dismayed at Kristen Kolibas's letter ("Police should make protection priority," April 18). Having experienced both sides of the issue personally, I can now say that it is far better to help a friend in need rather than abandon them for self-preservation. If that person is truly your friend, then you should want to see them to safety.
The fact that you would abandon them, puking, unconscious and God knows where, is horrifying at best. Despite the possibility of being physically assaulted, your friend could asphyxiate on her own vomit and die.
Sure it sucks to be the one to drag your friends to a safe bed and put a trash can next to them ... but I would far rather see my friends home safely than to see them in trouble. Our friends remember our deeds and often repay them in kind.
