Letter to the Editor
Conservative ideals also condemn rape

When a "newspaper" endorses John Kerry, flips out when a bunch of conservatives point out that there is little diversity in the political leanings of professors, and then publishes an editorial basically saying "conservatism equals bad" and "feminism equals good," you can get a pretty good idea of where that newspapers stands.

It's no surprise that conservative organizations like Young Americans for Freedom are constantly maligned in The Daily Collegian. Let's start off with a misconception; 119 Osmond Lab was almost full for the Phyllis Schlafly event (the Collegian reported 100 people).

There were probably more people there than actually went to Take Back the Night.

This Thursday, YAF will hold an event to educate women on using guns and other weapons to protect themselves.

This is a proactive approach to tackling the problem, walking around campus screaming and alienating 75 percent who hear you is not.

The feminist solution seems to be that we need to inform men that rape "isn't cool" (to quote a male feminist).

This is ridiculous; any man who would rape does not care what a bunch of screaming women and long-haired men wearing "this is what a feminist looks likes" T-shirts have to say.

Both liberals and conservatives can agree that rape is a horrible thing, but we conservatives have some different approaches to fighting the problem. In response to Mr. Rutter's letter ("YAF ideas go against the group's name," April 14) YAF is on this campus to represent conservative and libertarian ideas.

We see freedom as our founding fathers saw it. We desire freedom from government institutions running our lives and wasting our money.

If you or any student has a problem with the blatant liberal ideology that runs amuck in this newspaper and the University Park campus, then I suggest you find out more about our organization and events instead of just absorbing the distorted information the Collegian feeds you every day.
