SPORTS

There's no complacency in spring practice. That may be one of the only positives for a team working it's way out the Big Ten conference basement after a 4-7 season (2-6 Big Ten).

Come May 21, it will have been two months and a day since Penn State's Tanisha Wright finished her career as a Lady Lion.

For the type of weekend Penn State and Minnesota shared together on the baseball field, it would have been better if both kept their aces up their sleeves.

The No. 62 Penn State men's tennis team had a chance to make a big impact in the Big Ten this weekend, with two home matches outside on the friendly courts of Sarni Tennis Center.

The third time proved to be the charm, as for the first time in three attempts, the current No. 1 team knocked off Penn State women's lacrosse.

The Penn State women's rugby team's goal all season was to do something it had never done before: win back-to-back national championships. After this weekend's victories, the Lady Ruggers are two steps closer to accomplishing that feat.

Take a peek under a pitcher's baseball cap, and there's normally nothing except sweat stains and crooked stitching.

There is light at the end of the tunnel and the Penn State women's golf team knows that it is there. The Nittany Lions cruised to their second consecutive top-10 finish in as many weeks, finishing 10th at the Lady Buckeye Invitational at Ohio State.

The Penn State Paintball Association's hope of ranking first in the X-Ball division of the National Collegiate Paintball Championship was shot down Saturday, after its varsity team lost to Florida State University.

Missy Beseres wasn't really in the mood to celebrate.

FAIRFAX, Va. -- On Friday night members of the Penn State men's volleyball team went to the circus at the Bryce Jordan Center. There were no lion tamers in the performance. Similarly, there was no one to tame the No. 3 Nittany Lions in their Saturday match at George Mason, as Penn State (27-3, 12-0 EIVA) took the contest in straight sets (30-24, 30-26, 30-28).

A little over two weeks ago, their season looked extremely bleak. A 2-5 record, the failure to win a single game on the road, punctuated by the feeling that reaching .500 would be next to impossible. Not to mention receiving a bid in the NCAA tournament was a far-fetched yearning.

The Penn State men’s rugby team played the kind of game that it wanted to play for a full 20 minutes on Friday.
