Letter to the Editor
YAF ideas go against the group's name

Since the beginning of this year, I have become irritated every time I notice the blatant contrast between the agenda and name of the right-wing campus group, "Young Americans for Freedom." After the latest stunt they pulled, I had to stand up and say enough is enough.

I have grown sick and tired of seeing people misuse the word "freedom" on both local and national levels.

On the same day as "Take Back the Night," the Young Americans for Freedom invited Phyllis Schlafly to speak.

According to the Collegian article, Phyllis Schlafly is an anti-feminist who is against equal rights. The fact that the Young Americans for Freedom and this lady speak here is ironic because I personally believe that equal rights are a staple of a free society.

I can't see a genuine free society that discriminates based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender or sexual preference. I think it's time the Young Americans for Freedom either change its name or start living up to it.
