First, I'd just like to thank all of those who attended Take Back the Night and say that I am truly honored to be a part of such a powerful and healing event here at Penn State.
It takes a strength that few possess to share stories that speak of such pain.
That being said, I'm appalled.
During the march from East halls to Pollock, a male student wearing greek letters decided to say something to those marching.
When I asked him why he wasn't marching with us, he replied "because I like raping girls." and walked away rather quickly.
To whoever you are, you're a coward. If you had spent one minute listening to the male and female survivors of that terrible crime opening their hearts and sharing their stories, you never would have made that comment.
Not so long ago, our mothers and aunts were of college age. There were men like you then too.
I cannot believe that you call yourself a man.
You are a boy who has disgraced his house and the entire greek community with one statement.
Penn State men need to realize that rape and sexual assault are community issues, not "women's" issues.
These are our partners and sweethearts in life, not objects to be toyed with or abused.
Men need to be a proactive part of the solution, not the problem.
To the boy who said he liked to rape girls, I hope you wake up and change; that could be someone's mom, girlfriend or friend you are talking about.
