A few weeks ago I decided I don't like music I can't hop, skip, jump and, most importantly, clap to. Then I realized that's way lame, and why not just go all out and only listen to tunes that incorporate handclaps. Genius, really. Even when the Happy Valley sun is hiding and there's not a vodka tonic to be found, handclaps are the perfect way to perk up your mood, paste a smile on your face and get you boogying down the street with more oomph than a quad cappuccino.

Ten miles from downtown State College, fragrant rows of basil, chives, mint and other fresh herbs share a small greenhouse with dark purple pansies and lavender-colored violas.

Allen Street Grill, 100 W. College Ave., will feature Bill Filer. Specials include happy hour from 10 p.m. to midnight with half-priced well liquor (231-4745).
