Lohman, Taudien named McCoy award winners

Women's soccer All-American Joanna Lohman and men's gymnastics standout Jerker Taudien have been selected the recipients of Penn State's 2005 Ernest B. McCoy Memorial Award.

Two other accomplished senior student-athletes were recognized during the University's annual Student Awards Ceremony this past weekend. Lady Lion basketball All-American Kelly Mazzante was presented the Eric A. Walker Award and gridiron standout Zack Mills was named one of five recipients of the John W. Oswald Award.

The McCoy Award is presented annually to one senior male and one senior female student-athlete who have combined successful athletic participation with academic excellence.

A member of the U.S. Under-21 roster, Lohman and was a runner-up for the 2003 M.A.C. Hermann Trophy, awarded to the national collegiate soccer player of the year. Lohman, a midfielder, is the No. 6 scorer in program history and tallied 19 goals and six assists her senior year, when she was named Big Ten Player of the Year and came in second for national player of the year.

A four-year letterwinner, Taudien was a member of Penn State's 2004 national championship squad. He has competed at the World Championships for his native country. He was named the Swedish national champion on the pommel horse and parallel bars in 2000.
