A 20-year-old female Penn State student reported that she was raped early Monday by an armed stranger, according to the State College Police Department.
The rape occurred between midnight and 12:15 a.m. Monday near the 100 block of Hetzel Street, Sgt. Mark Argiro said.
The student told police she was walking along Hetzel Street and was approached from behind by an unknown man who pushed her against a building and told her he had a gun.
According to police, when the suspect asked for her wallet, the student told him she did not have one with her. He then asked for her money and she told the man she did not have any, Argiro said.
Police said the suspect then forced the victim into a car, which she described as a black, older model, four-door Honda Civic or Accord, which was parked in the vicinity of the 100 block of Hetzel Street.
Argiro said the victim reported seeing a black gun in his right hand before he placed his left hand over her eyes and sexually assaulted her.
After the victim was assaulted, the suspect allowed her to exit the vehicle and then drove away, police said.
While the incident is being investigated as a rape, Argiro said police are not releasing details about whether the incident is being classified as a rape or sexual assault.
The suspect is described as a white, college-aged male with broad shoulders and a narrow waist. The victim said he was wearing a black shirt, jeans and a white baseball hat with a red Boston Red Sox "B" on it, Argiro said.
State College police were notified of the incident at 12:51 a.m. by Mount Nittany Medical Center, where the victim was seeking treatment, Argiro said.
He said the victim received a sexual assault examination at the hospital.
Argiro added that information about the rape was not released earlier because interviews were being conducted for the investigation.
State College police are currently looking for any information on the suspect.
