In response to Jessie Beers-Altman's letter ("Liberal thinking is part of university," April 11), I would like to say that, as a Republican, I am disturbed by the implication that to be a Republican means that one is uneducated and intolerant.
First of all, not every Democrat is educated, and to imply so is ludicrous. Many Democrats are blue-collar workers who may only have a high school education, while many Republicans are college graduates.
Secondly, the claim that liberals emphasize tolerance and open-mindedness is a hypocrisy, because they are only tolerant when they agree with it. As a Republican, I am labeled intolerant because I do not accept something, when in fact tolerance and acceptance are completely different.
