News in brief

Police: Rape reported early yesterday

The State College Police Department said a rape was reported early yesterday morning.

A person was raped a residence on the 100 block of Hetzel Street. The incident was reported to police at 12:51 a.m. Police did not say when the rape occurred.

Police said they could not issue any additional information because the officer in charge of the investigation requested no press release.

State College Police Sgt. Mark Argiro said typically no additional information on a rape is released right away to prevent jeopardizing the investigation.

Assembly changes attendance policy

The Undergraduate Student Government (USG) Academic Assembly voted on a bylaws amendment to change its attendance policy at last night's meeting.

The amendment eliminates excused and unexcused absences by allocating 12 allowed absences for each assembly member.

Academic Assembly Vice President of Operations Brad Hoagland said juggling with excused and unexcused absences for general meetings, office hours, committee, department and caucus meetings was rather "unwieldy."

The amended bylaw now follows the USG Senate and Faculty Senate attendance policy.
