Collegian must start covering 'real news'

I found it quite trite that another homosexual-related article made its way to the front page of The Daily Collegian ("Rally culminates Pride Week 2005," April 4).

At least this time, numbers were given. One hundred people showing up to a speech (the same speech given over and over again) is now front-page news. "Let's get rid of hate and move towards equality."

I thought this was old news, but according to the Collegian, this is front-page, groundbreaking news. Give us a break. Give us "new" news. If you're running out of ideas (which it appears you are), how about submitting an online request form that lets the audience pick what they would like you to write about.

I for one would like to know why most of the lawmakers in State College are also property owners. Seems like all of us tenants get screwed because if this, or am I the only one who has lived at an apartment complex here.

Or maybe write a story about how numerous professors bring their political opinions into the classroom and try to alter the viewpoints of their students -- I'm looking your way, women's studies and your extra credit pro-abortion events.

Am I the only one who sees a conflict of interest here. Give us a little credit here, Collegian. Quit disguising the same story as news and just give us a new story.

If you want, I can round up 100 friends to sit around Old Main if that's the only way to be heard.
