As quickly as the weather changed this weekend in State College, so did the Penn State baseball team's misfortunes at Purdue. Penn State men's volleyball coach Mark Pavlik said it best: "The rest of the EIVA now knows that they have to come in here and play exceptionally well for a long match to beat us." A third Penn State football player who had been suspended indefinitely from the team for his alleged involvement in a January bow-and-arrow incident has been cleared by the Office of Judicial Affairs, a source close to the situation told The Daily Collegian yesterday. It might not have been the best way to start the outdoor track season, but the Penn State men's track team managed to perform well in the wind and rain Saturday afternoon at the Jim Thorpe Invitational at the Nittany Lion Track. They had already seen enough late-inning heroics for their own good. After an afternoon of steady rain and wind, Mt. Nittany was completely enveloped in a shroud of fog. In the Nittany Lion Track below the mountain, however, no cloud of doubt could be found surrounding the results of the Jim Thorpe Invitational. With tragedy still on its mind, the Penn State men's lacrosse team had the difficult task of playing a ranked opponent at a time when lacrosse seemed so unimportant. The Penn State women's lacrosse team had been treading water, but when the floodgates opened, it parted the sea. It can sometimes be a slow climb to being a successful team, and the Penn State women's tennis team is taking small steps each week to get itself to that point. Cold weather, muddy fields and torrential downpours couldn't stop the Penn State women's rugby team this weekend.
