Multi-platinum, Pittsburgh-based band Rusted Root will be the headlining band at Movin' On 2005.
"I can best describe Rusted Root as a fun jam band," Movin' On director Aaron Anthony said.
The Movin' On committee chose Rusted Root as the headlining band because of the band's popular appeal, and Anthony said the band is considered to be a big step up from last year's headliner Bowling for Soup. "Rusted Root is not an up-and-coming band, but they will be well-received among college students and are the biggest headliner Movin' On has ever had," he said.
Also performing on the main stage will be Future Leaders of the World, Suburban Legends, Head Automatica and David McMillin. They will be joined by one more act, which has not yet been announced. Suburban Legends played on the side stage at Movin' On last year.
"We asked Suburban Legends back because it is a fun band and it was a huge success when playing the side stage last year," Anthony said.
The Movin' On STA Travel side stage will feature six up-and-coming bands. Three of those are regional bands Felix Sarco, Idiosympathy and Kairos. "The regional bands are generally from Pennsylvania, and often have ties to Penn State," said Melissa Scannell, side stage director.
Joining these bands on the side stage will be the winners of Saturday night's Battle of the Bands.
The combination of these 12 groups will bring "different styles to Movin' On, and the festival will appeal to everyone," said Nicole Reed, public relations director.
Along with the various bands performing, other activities will be available in which students can participate. "There will be inflatables, such as jousting and sumo suits, and rock climbing, and student organizations will have tents and tables to promote their groups," Scannell said. "We want to give the audience a taste of State College."
"Movin' On has been happening for over 30 years and it is a great Penn State tradition," Assistant Director Katie Greenleaf said.
Movin' On is one of the largest student-run music festivals in the country, and occurs during Blue and White weekend. The festival takes place from noon until midnight April 23 on the HUB-Robeson Center lawn.
Recent headliners have included Reel Big Fish and Jimmy Eat World.
