Letter to the Editor
College for learning, not just being a fan

This is in response to Ryan Uhrin's comments about Penn State's football and basketball programs ("Basketball, football coaches must resign," March 31).

Mr. Uhrin, all you seem to do is criticize and mock our teams.

You said our basketball players are "sorry," so then why are you sad to see them leave?

I highly doubt half of the football team is "locked up" or "on parole."

I'm sure you have neverdone anything wrong in your entire life, and even if you did, you did not have the pressure and scrutiny of a Big Ten college athlete.

Calling JoePa a cancer is not only an insult, but couldn't be more wrong.

Since when is the "W" column the most important thing in sports?

We can be like some other schools that win, but have NCAA investigations every other year. Also, what about Penn State having some of the highest graduation rates?

How about being one of the best programs to prepare a player for not only the NFL, but for life?

My years at Penn State probably saw more losses than wins on the football field, but nothing makes me prouder than to say that JoePa is our coach.

No matter where you go in this country, he is respected and known not just for how good of a coach he "was," but how great of a person he is.

If you base your contributions to your alma mater solely on the number of wins from our basketball and football teams, maybe you missed the point.

For most of us, we go to college to get a world-class education, and I know I did, and I am glad to send money to help support future generations receive the same thing.
