Contradictions found in life, death debate
The recent case of Terry Schiavo has brought the value of human life into question once again. Here at Penn State, we hold our heads high, knowing that we support life in a big way each year through the Interfraternity/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (Thon). Literally thousands of students join the fight for the lives of children with cancer. These are children who have no control over their condition: They did not ask to have cancer, and they do not deserve to die. Saving the lives of children is the ultimate hope we embrace during Thon. It is a noble effort and the students of Penn State can feel proud to be supporting life in such a strong way. Yet many of these same students who fight for life through Thon simultaneously support the murder of children in the womb through abortion. This is a horrible double standard. Unborn children, like children with cancer, have no control over their condition: They did not ask to be conceived, and they do not deserve to die. How can we support life in one form while fighting against it in another? All who support efforts like Thon, but also support abortion, euthanasia or any form of "acceptable murder" need to realize this contradiction. Let us fight together for life in all its precious forms. Let us really do it "For the Kids." Michael Kovach
