The Penn State women's soccer team returns to the field on Saturday, when it will participate in the inaugural SHUT-OUT Cancer College Soccer Classic in Columbia, Md. The event combines the women's ninth annual KICKS Against Breast Cancer Intercollegiate Soccer Tournament and the men's inaugural Shut-Out Cancer College Soccer Festival.
"We are excited to be part of such a great event as the SHUT-OUT Cancer College Soccer Classic," Penn State head coach Paula Wilkins said. "We have been involved with the Kicks Against Breast Cancer program for several years, and are excited to continue our participation."
The Nittany Lions' first match is at 11 a.m. Saturday against Virginia. Penn State then takes on William & Mary at 3 p.m. In addition to Penn State, other women's teams in the field include George Mason, Georgetown, Loyola, Old Dominion, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, Navy and William & Mary.
The KICKS Against Breast Cancer Tournament raised $44,000 last year, bringing the event's eight-year total to more than $295,000.
Penn State's annual Kicks Against Breast Cancer Clinic, which will benefit the Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource and Image Center, will be held on April 16 at the Lady Lion soccer practice field.
