A Virginia man accused of trespassing in Bigler Hall last Wednesday had his preliminary hearing delayed yesterday until April 6.

Thomas Steininger, 29, of Oakton, Va., is charged with criminal trespass, a third-degree felony.

Steininger's hearing was postponed because his attorney, Bruce Manchester, was not able to attend court yesterday.

Steininger was arrested and arraigned after he was found walking around Bigler Hall unescorted in the afternoon of March 23, attempting to sell day spa passes on the first and fourth floors of the building, Penn State University Police Supervisor Dwight Smith said.

The floors in the residence hall from which Steininger was soliciting were all-female.

He was not a resident of the building, according to court documents.

One of the residents of Bigler Hall notified the University Police, who then proceeded to respond to the situation, Smith said.

According to court documents, one of the individuals in Bigler Hall observed Steininger walking around the floor unescorted while he was attempting to sell day spa passes to the floor residents.

Steiniger confirmed those actions to police.

Steininger told the officers he was on probation in Washington, D.C., Smith said.

University Police Officer Brian Bittner said Steininger is currently on probation with the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police Department for possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.

The Washington, D.C. probation office has been contacted and informed of the situation, Bittner said.

The Daily Collegian attempted to contact the Metropolitan Police Department's criminal records office, but calls that were placed yesterday were not returned.
