Accessories a big necessity
Ideas to bring any outfit from the ordinary to extraordinary

Collegian Staff Writer

Imagine Lucky Charms without the charms, newspapers without photos, Demi without Ashton, a restaurant without appetizers or the sky without clouds. Pretty dull, huh? And what do all these things have to do with each other? The latter accessories the former; without it, she/it is boring, blends in with the rest of the mediocre crowd, and is soon forgotten. But of course, nowhere in life are accessories as crucial as they are in fashion. Without them you're just another walk in any ol' park. But with the right accessories, you're Central Park on a perfect sunny day.

Here are the must-have accessories for spring/summer 2005

Turquoise

The official "it" color of the season is blue, especially turquoise. Whether it's beads, bags, shoes, or belts you can't go wrong and it won't be hard to find.

Floppy wide-brimmed hats

Thick bands, fun prints, lots of fabrics. As big and fun as you like it, go crazy with hats this spring and summer. They look especially great with this season's loose floral dresses.

Chunky Gothic/Cocktail Rings

Think jawbreaker size, larger-than-life beautiful stone rings. Coral, tiger-eye, turquoise are favorites. Best look is to wear them with cropped sleeves.

Beads and Crystals or Jewels on accessories

Wooden beads, vintage beads, glass beads, rock beads, green crystals, gold jewels, they all work! On shirts, sandals, clutches, a bead or jewel where you least expect it will help keep you creative and individual all while kicking your outfit into overdrive.

Sunglasses

Oversize ovals, plastic frames, festooned and fabulous, it's all back to the '60s with the rims.

Think Jackie O, the more of your face they cover up, and the more you look slightly froggish, the better.

Bags

Three bags dominate for summer casual: the oversize leather bag, the hobo bag in any in-vogue color and the white bag. The oversize leather bag will hold everything from folders to make-up to water bottles while still looking chic, the hobo bag is classic and practical, and the white bag (in any style) goes with everything that's in this summer.

Bejeweled Clutch

A more formal look for a night on the town, try a dazzling clutch. It works in any color you like and helps cement any pseudo-elegant to super-fancy outfit together.
