Gurenlian named ECAC defender of the week

Penn State men's lacrosse junior Greg Gurenlian was named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Defensive Player of the Week by league officials on Monday.

Gurenlian collected 12 ground balls, won 16 of 24 face-offs and recorded one assist in an 11-10 overtime loss to Fairfield on Saturday at Bigler Field. He leads the Nittany Lions in ground balls with 44 and has won 66 face-offs on 103 attempts, for a .641 average.

Gurenlian is first in the ECAC with a 7.33 ground balls per game average and holds the top spot over Georgetown defenseman Brodie Merrill.

Penn State returns to action on Saturday, when it visits Massachusetts. The Lions then host Mount St. Mary's at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
