UPUA will not mend problems with USG

It's a shame that our friends on this Constitutional Review Committee believe all our problems can be fixed by simply eliminating the current systems of Undergraduate Student Government.

The root of the problem isn't the structure itself, but the way each branch interacts with both one another and the school. I'm not so sure reducing the size of student government is really what we need. I believe we need to find ways to both earn the respect of one another and communicate better.

We may not like each other, but in an effort to do our job and represent the student body, it needs to be done. Yes, so you limit the number of "briefcase carrying kids playing politics." Well, you would also be limiting the amount of diversity and difference of opinion that this current administration "loves" so much. Come on guys, you can't have it both ways. Nothing against Galen Foulke, but the fact that he went straight to a commission, instead of finding out what active students on campus think, concerns me.

After all, he is the voice of the students. The further problem of nearly getting impeached also forces me to question the amount of respect he has from those he works with. I hope that whoever holds the position of president and vice president next year (whether it be the incumbent or someone else) will have the fortitude to approach this problem as a matter of poor leadership instead of from the "problem" of the system itself.
