Republicans are not following their ideals
Three cheers for the Republicans! It's wonderful to know that they can be commended for their base power grabs when it comes to some middle-class woman in a coma in Florida, and yet the president himself, who has been one of the biggest names in this whole matter, signed into law in Texas a bill allowing life support to be removed (despite any objections the family might raise) from those who couldn't afford hospital treatment. Very recently, in fact, an infant died for that exact reason. Where were the Republican noisemakers and cable news pundits? Perhaps it's easier to believe for them that "the pro-life base will be excited" (according to the talking points memo leaked to rawstory.com) over a middle-class white woman in Florida than a poor black boy in Texas. And of course, what better way to show the Republicans' desire for smaller government than to use it to intrude into a very personal decision on a single-family basis? Greg Lescoe
