Penn State University Police has filed charges against a Virginia man who allegedly entered Bigler Hall without permission and attempted to sell day spa passes to female residents.
Thomas Steininger, 29, of Oakton, Va., was arraigned Wednesday and charged with criminal trespass. He was released yesterday from Centre County Prison, where he had been held on $5,000 bail since Wednesday.
According to court documents, Steininger told police he was attempting to speak with women, especially sorority members, to sell day spa passes and that he had been invited inside by an unknown female.
An individual who observed Steininger walking unescorted through the all-female fourth floor of Bigler Hall alerted police.
The resident told police that Steininger knocked on her door and asked her to purchase a day spa pass. When she informed him that he needed to be escorted, he became "nervous."
Steininger's preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 30 at Centre County Courthouse, Bellefonte.
