"It was so weird, we didn't know when the song was going to be aired," Pond said. "I was eating dinner and watching the show, and it came on. I had spaghetti just dangling out of my mouth I was so stunned."
So does that mean that during the singer's down time from writing and performing he's an OC fan?
"I don't know, it just sucks you in," Pond said. "I always seem to be home on Thursday night at 8, and then there's Mischa Barton. I also have a theory that the actor playing Seth is trying to emulate an early Bill Murray. Yet, I do think that what the show does for music is amazing. I think they're more invested in music than in the actual plot of the show."
For those worried that Pond and his band members will talk more about their theories on The OC than they will perform, don't worry, the band appreciates the music more than talking.
"I don't like telling stories to the crowd," Pond said. "It seems so tired. I like interaction with the crowd, but I want them to yell, I don't care if the crowd gets antagonistic if there's a certain song they want to hear."
The self-acclaimed orchestral-pop group has been keeping busy doing a little bit of talking in the past few weeks with everything from an appearance on Last Call with Carson Daly to even having one of their songs played on NPR's All Things Considered.
"I don't want to sound like a kiss-ass, but Carson was actually really cool," Pond said. "He seems like such a down-to-earth person and he's tall -- very tall."
As for the band's song appearing on NPR, Pond sees it as one of the highlights for the band.
"People see it as a really good thing," he said. "I have no qualms about the song being on NPR. It feels weird, but I feel legitimized. Smart people like our music."
Other musicians are also fans of the band.
"They are such a great band," said Chuck Ramsey, guitarist and trombonist for The Bullet Parade. "I know they had a song on The OC a few weeks ago, maybe they'll play it again. I'm really excited to hear them play."
Dave Wells, Crowbar's operations director, said he is also excited to play host to Roustabout!
"This show has a wide variety of people interested in it," he said. "It should be a good time."
That wide variety and the huge following that Matt Pond PA has formed are two of the reasons Roustabout! is making a move.
"We can't have an all-ages show at the Darkhorse Tavern," Ramsey said. "It is important for [The Bullet Parade] to perform for people of all ages and for Matt Pond PA's underage fans to get a chance to see them perform."
With all the press Matt Pond PA has been receiving lately on television, it is no wonder there is a need of venue change for Roustabout!
As for Pond and his newfound obsession with The OC, it continues to grow.
"I kind of hope Marisa and Ryan don't get back together, you know, for my sake and all."
