Letter to the Editor
Calling feminism today illogical is not logical

Lauren Warner's column on the illogical nature of feminism is completely misinformed ("Feminism should not trump academia or logic," March 21).

First, Warner defends what she calls an alleged rape in Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead and criticizes her professor for not supporting the book or scene. If her professor is any sort of feminist, she will oppose rape and anything that glorifies it.

Calling the scene in the Fountainhead consensual sex is why events like Take Back the Night are necessary.

Next, Warner blames women for not being prominent in political positions. There is more to it that simply running because those in power choose who gets on the ballot and who they will support with valuable publicity and money.

This backing and these nominations are given to men and not women. Warner implies women should run for judicial offices.

However, the president nominates all U.S. Supreme Court Justices, Court of Appeal Judges and District Court Judges.

The male-dominated political elite picks these people and puts them in office. Finally, she blames feminism for Brian Nichols' murders in Atlanta.

These murders were not an issue of gender but an issue of a deranged man trying to escape a rape trial and a huge lapse in security.

If the man was that dangerous, he could overcome most security guards, male or female.

Assuming this was an issue of gender is illogical: the exact thing Warner accuses feminists of being.
