I believe that Hamdan Yousuf's article ("Many Muslim days should be off too," March 22) is the most hypocritical editorial that I have read throughout the entire year.

Mr. Yousuf criticizes Mike Skurko ("Administration must make Easter day off," March 18) for requesting Easter off, but at the same time contradicts himself by asking Penn State to give days off for Islamic holidays.

Mr. Yousuf had a relevant point in the beginning of his argument, but later destroyed his integrity by committing the same fallacy as the person he accused -- putting his religion's importance above all others.

Last time I checked, the university does not cancel classes for religious purposes, for obvious reasons.

Giving days off for one religious holiday and not another could easily be considered discriminatory.

If the university gives a day off for one religious holiday, students have every right to complain about not having off for another. Canceling class on Martin Luther King Jr. Day is permissible because it is a public holiday and a part of our nation's history.

Clearly one can see the difference between MLK Day and a holiday pertaining to religion.

If you are that concerned about not having off for your religious holidays, then do not come to a public school like Penn State.

The university is not able to accommodate the numerous amounts of religions practiced by its students. Want a religious holiday off? Apply to a private university of your chosen religion.
