Letter to the Editor
Schiavo being denied our founding rights

"... endowed with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

People would do well to actually think about these words in our Declaration of Independence, for these are not empty words, but ideas upon which our country was founded.

The right to life is unalienable -- yet, this is the very right which U.S. District Judge James Whittemore alienated Terri Schiavo from on Tuesday. Moreover, what is not broadly publicized is that Mr. Schiavo, who is petitioning to let Terri die, has left her to begin a family with another woman.

Why is it that Mr. Shiavo is allowed to determine her fate, leaving every other member of her family -- including parents and siblings -- out of the decision making process?

In this country, we have the unalienable right to life, and therefore, Terri Schiavo deserves to eat.
