Senators approve parking diagram

Collegian Staff Writer

The 35th Undergraduate Student Government (USG) Senate approved an off-campus parking map last night at their final meeting of the term.

Senate Town Chair Louise Durante said the creation of an off-campus parking map was a very useful and practical idea.

The map includes the location of long-term parking off campus as well as pricing and contact information.

She said she hopes to distribute the map at USG functions, make it available on the USG Web site, www.clubs.psu.edu/up/usg as well as provide it for the Off-Campus Student Union.

The map was a platform goal of USG President Galen Foulke and Vice President Luke Adams, and combined the research many USG senators, Durante added.

The Senate also used their final meeting to add referendum questions to the March 30 USG election ballot.

Students will be asked if they would pay $1 each semester to support energy and environmental activities at Penn State.

Eco-Action President Maura Cowley said the fee could decrease Penn State's growing energy and recycling costs and fund initiatives to educate students on conservation and recycling.

The ballot will also contain a question on whether USG should actively lobby administrators to cut operating costs in order to reduce student tuition.

East Halls Sen. Matt Ritsko said referendum questions are usually found on the election ballot each year.

He added the USG constitution states that senators must promote the referendum questions if a student majority mandates it.

The meeting closed with emotional thank yous and good-byes as senior senators will not return next term.
