Letter to the Editor
Thank Republicans for saving Schiavo

I wanted to commend the Republican lawmakers in Washington for stepping up and standing up for speaking out someone who cannot speak for herself.

Their 11th-hour effort to save Terri Schiavo'a life is commendable, especially in the dirty field of politics. Although many argue that Terri Schiavo would never want to live in a "persistent vegetative" state, dying by being denied food and water surely is not a humane nor dignified way to go, either.

Her husband, Michael, has spend the weekend criticizing and bashing Congress for their actions. But what I would like to know is how can someone who supposedly has Terri's best interests at heart want to see her starved to death?

If Michael really had her best interests at heart, he would have been using the money he has been spending on litigation over the years to bring therapists in to work with Terri instead of trying to win the right to kill her. I think that by our elected officials stepping up to help someone who can no longer help herself it sends a big message that we cannot trample the rights of the weak. In the meantime, we just have to pray that they succeed.
