Women's lacrosse faces yet another No.1-ranked team

Collegian Staff Writer

Penn State women's lacrosse isn't catching any breaks on its schedule. It had to face No. 1 Virginia a week ago and pulled off the upest. However, that opened up the door for Princeton (3-0) to take the No. 1 spot and Penn State's opponent this week -- Princeton.

"We are excited to play another top team and see what we are made of," Penn State coach Suzanne Isidor said.

The No. 10 Nittany Lions (4-1) are trying to come back from a loss to William & Mary after they beat the Cavaliers.

They worked on ball movement during practice in order to limit the double teams from Princeton and on defense they worked on one-on-one defense. Isidor said that playing good defense would be important as Princeton has a lot of great athletes on offense. The defense gave up too many shots to William & Mary and was a factor in the loss.

Princeton is coming off of a win against No. 5 Duke Wednesday night. Lindsey Biles, who has 12 goals on the season, leads the Tigers offense. Biles is second in the Princeton record books with 55 goals in 2004 season. She was just one shy of tying the mark. Her 55 goals also helped her make it into fourth place in points in a season with 71.

Goaltender Sarah Kolonder has a 7.30 goals against average and 25 saves on the seaon. All three of the Tigers' wins have come over Top 20 opponents.

Unlike Princeton, the Lions have four women who take control of the offense. Lori Havrilla, Emily Chambers, Lindsay Dutch and Shari Maslin are all in double digits for goals. Goaltender Lee Tortorelli takes a 7.12 goals against average and 29 saves into the matchup.

The Lions aren't letting the loss affect how they are preparing for the game.

"It didn't take a lot to get the team ready," Isidor said. "We proved that we can beat the best. We have a lot of confidence having already beat [Virginia]."
