Penn State's Tanisha Wright added to her growing list of accolades when she was named a first-team All-American by the United States Basketball Writers Association.
Wright was one of 10 players selected to the prestigious team, which was announced yesterday.
Already this season Wright has brought home a variety of honors. An All-Big Ten pick, Wright also garnered her third consecutive Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year Award, and is the only player ever to win the award more than once. On the other end, she finished the regular season as the Big Ten's leading scorer, averaging 19.6 points per game.
She also ranked among the league's best in assists and steals during the season. Penn State's senior guard is currently averaging 19.3 points per game, and is closing in on the 2,000-point plateau with 1,976 points to her credit entering Sunday's NCAA Championship first round game versus Liberty.
The Lady Lions face Liberty at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in College Park, Md. The game will air live on ESPN2 and ESPNU and on the radio on the Penn State Sports Network and www.GoPSUsports.com. Should Penn State win, the Lady Lions will face either Virginia Tech or DePaul on Tuesday at 7 or 9:30 p.m.
