Famous visages found locally

Collegian Staff Writer

He doesn't own a pair of moon boots or know anyone named Pedro, but he sure looks like that guy from Napoleon Dynamite.

Adam Slusser (freshman-actuarial science), who looks like Napoleon (played by actor Jon Heder), is one of several Penn State community members who bears a striking resemblance to well-known celebrities.

"Somehow I got nominated the No. 1 lookalike for Napoleon by PSU's Flippin' Sweet Napoleon Dynamite Club [on www.Thefacebook.com]," Slusser said.

Slusser said people approach him on a regular basis, but he was caught off guard the first time it happened because he had not heard about the movie.

"These guys came up and were like, 'We just want to shake your hand, Napoleon,' " he said. "It was the first week here, and I didn't know many people then, and it's just embarrassing if someone comes up to you and does that."

Slusser said he just goes with the flow and enjoys the added attention from girls.

"It's like you go to a party and people want to dance with you just because you look like Napoleon," he said.

Jaime Taylor (sophomore-health and policy administration) said that last semester when she dyed her hair darker, people told her she resembled Ashlee Simpson almost on a daily basis.

"I didn't really know what I got myself into because it was nuts," she said.

Kerry Meyer (freshman-actuarial science) says she does not see a resemblance between Ashlee Simpson and herself.

She added that she enjoyed the comparison at first, but has since tried to grow her bangs out and even get highlights for a fresh, less Ashlee-like, look.

Another Ashlee look-a-like, Kerry Meyer (freshman-actuarial science), said people often tell her she resembles the star, though she does not really see the resemblance.

"I'll be walking downtown and I've had people call my name and ask me for an autograph," she said.

Meyer said she finds it both funny and flattering, but is used to the comments by now.

Kaira Klueber (freshman-marketing) said she has been told she looks like Tara Reid since American Pie was first released.

Klueber said sometimes if she is at a party and someone can not remember her name, the person resorts to her celebrity likeness instead.

"They'll be like 'Yo Tara, what's up,' " she said.

Klueber added that a few people have asked for her picture and typically gets more comments when Reid is coming out with a new movie or is in the media spotlight.

"They're just kind of joking around and like, 'Oh I just want to take this picture back to my friends at home and let them know I met Tara Reid at Penn State,' " she said.

Lauren Powers (freshman-division of undergraduate studies) said her friend pointed out her resemblance to Mischa Barton when The OC first came out.

"It was on TV and one of my friends called me and told me to turn to whatever channel it was on, and she was like 'You look just like this girl,' " she said.

Powers said her friends often joke around about the resemblance.

"I was here in the summer, and all my friends called me 'Meesh,' " she said.

Russell Eshleman, a senior journalism lecturer, said it is typically older people who tell him he looks like President George W. Bush.

"I was on a Stairmaster ... and this guy comes up to me, and he says 'Oh man, you look just like George Bush,' saying it pretty loudly ...," he said. "I was sort of slinking down in my little Stairmaster."
