NEWS

For those who have made embarrassing calls while intoxicated or have been stuck in the middle of a bad date without an escape, certain cell phone companies are offering services to save cell phone users from these sticky situations.

For Greg Mason, next week's spring break is about more than getting a great tan at the beach.

As Penn State students begin to leave for spring break, the community will feel their absence on campus and downtown.

Walking back to her University Terrace apartment alone at night always made Alex Ting a little nervous.

A Cumberland County judge will hear more testimony today to decide whether Penn State's plan to create a Dickinson School of Law campus at University Park violates the agreement made when the two schools merged in 1997.

For 15 years, Penn State Rugby has looked at home while excelling in all aspects of the game on the field.

Penn State student Adam Stallard has found self-fulfillment through Christianity and being gay.

This week's episode of Survivor: Palau solidified two things: 1) The Koror tribe is much stronger than Ulong -- whose internal bickering and staunch Southern vendettas are beginning to resemble a Tennessee Williams play -- and 2) Koror's backbone is the triumvirate of Tom, Gregg and Ian. The latter, of course, is Ian Rosenberger, Penn State's former Undergraduate Student Government president.

SPORTS

The Penn State women's lacrosse team had a tough year last season, finishing 6-11. But the No. 17 Nittany Lions are already making amends for it this year, as they beat No. 15 Vanderbilt, 15-7, last weekend.

Throughout the entire season, the Penn State men's fencing team has been ranked No. 2 in the national rankings. One week before the second biggest competition of the year, the Nittany Lions moved into first.

Two down, two to go.

After the low of the Big Ten Championships this past weekend, the Penn State men's track and field team will be looking to redeem itself at the Alex Wilson Invitational this weekend away at South Bend, Ind.

There is no sun and there are no beaches in sight for this group of athletes, and they could not be happier about it.

At every Penn State men's rugby match, there are always two or three former Ruggers in attendance to watch their team play.

Sure, the No. 66 men's tennis team will be in Orlando during spring break -- but the trip will be anything but "Mickey Mouse." Before heading to sunny Orlando, Fla., to train outside for the week, the Nittany Lions (9-2, 0-1) will have to take on No. 62 Indiana (3-6, 0-0) in Bloomington.

The Penn State softball team will get into the full swing of its schedule with 11 games over spring break, which will include the Nittany Lions' (1-4) first taste of Big Ten competition when they face Michigan State (1-7) in the Central Florida Tournament on Sunday.

The Penn State baseball team (1-3) may have started off on the wrong foot, but it will have plenty of chances to turn it around over Spring Break.

Then there were two.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Iowa (20-8) has long awaited the chance to pay back the Lady Lions for the Jan. 6 loss that stole its distinction of being the last remaining undefeated team in the country.

Rising junior running back Austin Scott sustained an injury in Tuesday's winter workouts, according to Penn State sports information director Jeff Nelson. Nelson said he was not able to go into specifics on the nature of the injury, but that it could be serious enough for Scott to miss a portion of spring practice, which begins on March 28.

For the first time all season, Penn State women's indoor track and field team has a different goal than coming out on top at a weekend meet.

The Penn State men's basketball team looks to break its 31-game road losing streak in the Big Ten when it faces No. 12 Michigan State (21-5, 12-3 Big Ten) at 8 p.m. tomorrow.

The Penn State wrestling team is looking for a little thievery.

Stayin' alive

Ahh, spring break. A week of sun, beaches, beers, girls and ... fierce competition?

Carping on Tori Amos doesn't come easy.

At least Cursed doesn't take itself too seriously.

Hide and Seek is part of an early year trilogy of horror films that also includes the stinkers Boogeyman and Alone in the Dark.

Jonah Matranga has done just about everything as an indie rocker. The emotional hard-rock of his first band, Far, inspired successful bands such as Thursday.

"NAMES! NAMES, NAMES, NAMES!"

If you're the type who'll dig Kathleen Edwards, you've probably already heard of her. You probably own her first album, 2002's stunning Failer, as well as a bunch of stuff by Gillian Welch, Neko Case, Garrison Starr and Lucinda Williams.

Allen Street Grill, 100 W. College Ave., will feature Bill Filer and Magic Hat beer (231-4745).

Frog Holler.
