Gay issues must not be eclipsed by race

I find it interesting that the state asks President Graham Spanier about acts of racism, but disregards acts of hate toward the queer community ("House reviews racial issues," March 2).

As the queer community has so often seen, and as I have personally been afraid of happening; we continually see the silencing of any queer voice in the press when other equally pressing issues arise. We are all working together, to create a community of understanding and acceptance.

How can this happen when society see acts of hate based on race and acts of hate based sexual orientations or acts of hate based on any minority as completely separate issues.
