Police: Man allegedly assaulted minor

Police are looking for a local man who allegedly assaulted a 17-year-old girl after the pair engaged in an argument at an apartment on the 900 block of Bellaire Avenue at about 3:50 p.m. yesterday. Christopher Sheffey, 19, fled the scene after the victim called the police.

State College Police said that after the argument, Sheffey grabbed the victim's head, smashed her face into the floor, grabbed her throat, punched her face and bit her arm. Sheffey then allegedly sat on a chair and blocked the girl from leaving the room, according to police. When the victim left the scene, Sheffey took her purse and has not been seen since. The victim's neck, throat and right eye were bruised, but police said she refused medical treatment.

Sheffey faces charges of simple assault, false imprisonment, misdemeanor theft and summary harassment, and is wanted by State College Police Department and the National Crime Information Center.

Police reclassify rape as sexual assault

The State College Police Department is now classifying an incident originally reported to be a rape as a sexual assault. The change is the result of incomplete paperwork at the time of the original report, police said. The sexual assault victim, a Penn State student, told police she attended an off-campus party Saturday on the 100 block of Keller Street and was sexually assaulted by an unknown man between midnight Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday. Police are conducting interviews and have identified potential suspects.

Sexual assault reported by PSU visitor

Penn State University Police are investigating a sexual assault that occurred at an unknown location on campus Sunday. The victim, who was visiting Penn State, reported to a doctor at Tyrone Hospital that she had been sexually assaulted by a person known to her, police said. The incident occurred between 2 a.m. and noon Sunday.
