New cartoon debuting off campus
A new show on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim will be screened for free at Phi Kappa Tau, 408 E. Fairmount Ave.

For The Collegian

Avid fans of Cartoon Network's late-night Adult Swim are getting a new show to watch, Twelve Ounce Mouse, when a sneak peek clip of the never before seen show is shown at 9 tonight at Phi Kappa Tau fraternity, 408 E. Fairmount Ave.

The event is being held at the fraternity house because the university normally does not condone third-party promoters holding on-campus events, said David Ross (junior-integrative arts), Adult Swim's campus promoter. Phi Kappa Tau was chosen because one of its members started the "Adult Swim appreciation" group on www.thefacebook.com and became friends with Ross.

What: 'Twelve Ounce Mouse' preview, Adult Swim screenings.
Time: 9 p.m.
Date: tonight
Where: Phi Kappa Tau, 408 E. Fairmont Ave.
Details: Admission is free.

Ross said the clip will be shown with previously unaired episodes of Adult Swim shows Sealab 2021 and Tom Goes to the Mayor.

Reruns of "favorite" Adult Swim shows Harvey Birdman, Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Sealab 2021 will also be shown.

"I need to go see the unaired episodes just to rub it in to the other people who didn't," Greg Jahn (junior-computer engineering) said.

According to Broadcasting and Cable magazine, Adult Swim averages more than a million viewers each night.

"Watching Adult Swim is addictive," Courtney Noonan (sophomore-art) said.

"It slowly takes you from the most popular shows to obscure shows from other countries," Noonan said.

"I can appreciate that," she added.

Adult Swim caters to a broad-based audience and typical college-age students aren't the only ones watching.

"I got my 50-year-old mom addicted to Aqua Teen Hunger Force," Graydon Yoder (junior-film and video) said. "She came into the room and asked why I was watching a show about Rastafarian French fries, and within five minutes she was on the floor laughing -- literally," Yoder added.

Matt Haney (sophomore-electrical engineering) said that although he owns most of the Adult Swim shows on DVD, he still watches regularly.

Although people will not leave the event with DVDs, they might not leave empty handed.

Like Ross' previous events, which include last semester's screening of Adult Swim shows and a bar tour, this event is open to everyone.

It will include free giveaways to people who attend the evening's event.

"I'll be giving out T-shirts, hats and [show-themed] playing cards," Ross said.
