Letter to the Editor
'The majority' is not out to get minorities

I am writing this letter in regards to the recent controversy surrounding race relations and minority groups at the University Park campus.

For the past few weeks, especially in the wake of "the letter" to the Collegian -- which has seemed to take on a life of its own -- I have remained a neutral observer to the bickering which has occurred through various letters to the editor.

I have been sympathetic to minority groups on-campus seeing as how they are forced to endure various hateful acts.

What I am growing weary of, however, is minority group attacks on "the majority," or the run-of-the-mill white male, a group which I am proud to belong to.

I do not like others discriminating against myself by making such generalizations as me being a "predator," or an otherwise insensitive member of society.

Being a member of the majority group is not always easy.

I have never been given special treatment, such as a scholarship. Society wrongly believes that since I am a white male, I have had an easy ride through life.

I recognize and applaud that all members of minority groups attempting to achieve equality.

But it is not fair for minority groups to gain this equality at the expense of other groups.
