Letter to the Editor
Minorities should not be treated differently

The Black Caucus at Penn State has been making headlines recently with their demands and cries for equality among students. I understand where their deep-rooted passion over suppression comes from, extending all the way back to the days of slavery. However, when I opened the paper the other day and read the headline, ("Sophomore named Mr. Black Penn State," Feb. 28) I was infuriated. The same demographic group causing all the commotion over equality is further segregating themselves from the rest of the student population. What if I wanted to enter their contest labeled strictly for "blacks" as a Caucasian male; I would be subject to ridicule.

Even worse, if I were to create a contest entitled Mr. White Penn State, I would be accused of discrimination and be labeled a supremacist. Why is it acceptable for this demographic to create controversy over segregation issues when they are further complicating the problem by isolating their demographic? I say to you vocal leaders and members of the Black Caucus: Practice what you preach.
