'Loving' Jesus Christ is the absolute truth
Anne DeHart, you made some excellent points ("Most of the world sees the Bible as flawed text," Feb. 25). I am a follower of Jesus, and your letter led me to reflect on my faith in His words of truth and mercy. I've noticed a tendency in myself that leads me to judge others while ignoring the effects of my own actions, and I don't believe I'm alone in that among Christians. I would like to apologize if this type of attitude has offended you. Please don't evaluate Jesus based on us. He is so much better. I saw that you read Leviticus. If you have the time, please read John, Chapter 4. It's the story Jesus' encounter with an "untouchable" woman. He saw that God created her, and He saw her worth. Jesus confronted her about her lifestyle, but He did not condemn her. He spoke with both truth and mercy. He loved her. He gave her hope, and she found Him to be better than her old life. In its entirety, the Bible does not push an agenda of hate. However, it does claim to contain truth and the key to a meaningful life. I understand that some might consider its claims offensive. They have the right to hold this view, but it is unreasonable to claim the Bible is open to interpretation. Truth is unalterable for all time. Christ claimed to be truth, so each of us must decide whether He is a lie or the means to real life. John Petrilli
