Religious laws, policy problem with country
Ryan Stingle states (Label of hate speech opposes Christianity," Feb. 25) that the Collegian writers and readers bashing Chris Kovalchick's letter are forcing the idea that Christians are wrong in there beliefs. Guess what buddy, last time I looked, the Collegian is not a Christian newspaper, nor is Penn State a parochial school. I'm a Catholic (if that's "OK" with you) from a working class area in New York City -- where someone like you would soil yourself if taken to -- where many, including myself, really don't like homosexuals. But who are we to tell anyone how to live his or her private life? If you weren't too busy listening to Bush tell you what to be afraid of next, you would realize that the message the Collegian writers and Penn State students are giving is not that Christian beliefs are wrong, but that you are wrong in trying to tell a public, non-bias periodical to adhere to a specific set of "morals." OK, so you all are going to write back saying that I'm a hypocrite and liberal, but if you'd put down your pitchfork and Bible, and really read what I wrote you would understand what I'm saying. Maybe if there weren't such an influx of religious ideals into government policy, we wouldn't be facing these situations in the first place. Cross burning isn't so hot anymore; at least you'd know that if you lived in the real world. Mike Pettigano
