The recent trend of attacking one another via the Collegian is getting out of hand.
Instead of trying to change others through hatred and intentionally rude comments, why not take a look in the mirror and try to change us?
The literal meaning of Christian is "like Christ." Christ stressed the importance of the two most valuable commandments, love God and neighbor.
Jesus demonstrated this tolerance when he forgave a prostitute, someone with whom he, by Jewish law, was forbidden to associate.
If I am truly a Christian, and thus emulate Christ, that means I am to love my homosexual neighbor, my Republican neighbor, my Democratic neighbor, my black neighbor, and yes, even the neighbor who hates me as a result of my beliefs.
I may not like the act of homosexuality, but that does not give me the right to hate gays; I may not like abortion, but that does not give me the right to hate a woman who has had one; on the contrary, I love and accept them both.
Everyone needs love and acceptance; isn't it time we gave it?
No matter how much preaching and teaching you provide someone who is full of hate, at the end of the day they are still going to be a bigot; your reaction to them, on the other hand, is what defines you and has the power to affect change. How do your actions define you?
