At the Black Caucus town hall meeting on Wednesday night, many students criticized the Collegian for inadequate coverage of racial issues and only providing coverage of students of color that are deemed "important enough."
Students said that the Collegian will not cover race issues unless it involves a student with a title. I am not qualified to make this assessment.
But editor James Young has said, "We have an obligation to print letters from people who are unhappy with our decisions."
Why didn't quotes from these people make it into the article on the town hall meeting? Don't Collegian reporters have an equal obligation to represent voices that complain that their press coverage is inadequate? Or does this obligation only include printing "unhappy" comments that will create controversy and increase readership?
