Area residents must boycott circus acts

The circus is coming to Happy Valley, and with it will come the sadness of how inhumanely we treat wildlife in the name of "entertainment." Elephants are known to develop strong bonds with their kin.

They travel in social units, they raise their young together and they mourn their dead.

These bonds are shattered when owners separate families in the wild in order to make a profit.

Baby elephants born in captivity are ripped from their mothers so they can be trained.

Such training involves isolation, intimidation, beatings and electric shock. Their spirit must be broken in order for them to be trained.

Please educate yourselves and your children about animals in their natural environment.

Read nature books together as a family or have family movie night with a video from National Geographic.

Also, patronize a modern circus that doesn't exploit animals. Instead they dazzle us with
amazing human acrobatics.

Penn State often has acrobatic acts at Eisenhower Auditorium. Please support these events instead of the circus.
