'You're Not That Into Him'
Book Review

As a retort to the hilarious, yet somewhat self-deprecating He's Just Not That Into You: The No Excuses Truth to Understanding Guys, Ian Kerner brings lonely, love-seeking, single ladies Be Honest -- You're Not That Into Him Either: Raise Your Standards and Reach for the Love You Deserve.

This witty but information-filled read gives ladies a boost of self-confidence with scientific facts to back it up. Kerner is a sex therapist -- he knows his stuff. He helps women understand their dating dilemmas and disasters while giving them the freedom to make their own decisions. And he does this without providing an insulting, step-by-step guide to meeting the man of their dreams and getting hitched (because he knows that we know there really isn't a mathematical formula to finding love).

Split into three parts -- Sex, The Marketplace and The Cycle -- the author provides excuses that women make for dating all the wrong guys at all the wrong times, and breaks down what might be going through a woman's head when she falls for a man she wasn't into from the start. Kerner encourages women to get off "the dating treadmill," slow down, and get what they deserve and want -- whether that be casual sex or a mate for life.

All along he provides facts based on biology and psychology explaining things like why women might get more emotionally attached to a man post hanky-panky and may not actually be able to have "sex like a man" as suggested by some popular television shows. This book provides a ton of insight into the everyday trials of dating, but can become a bit repetitive and tedious toward the end as each chapter title begins with "You're not that into him either, but ..."

And although it was fun and informative, it's geared toward an age group that might be a little more panic-stricken about finding someone to spend the rest of their life with -- most of us are in college, and, hey, we have forever, right?
