"It helped to have three days under our belts, and we were feeling more relaxed in our games," she added.
Auburn University won the event, shooting 292 yesterday for a total of 888 in three days. Texas Christian moved up to second place, shooting 304 yesterday and 909 total, and Florida was third, shooting 307 and 910. Auburn's Diana Ramage finished first with a score of 69 in the final round, and 216 overall.
Junior captain Amber Weinerth wrapped up a solid individual tournament, ranking 22nd out of 75 players. She shot 74 yesterday and 320 total.
Senior captain Lauren Lundy finished 58th with scores of 78 and 245.
"After being off for a few months, Amber had a great tournament and Lauren really turned it around," St. Pierre said.
The other team members, sophomores Evelyn Paik, Maggie Lester and junior Katrin Wolfe, finished 61st, 68th and 75th, respectively.
St. Pierre said that the team did not play as well as expected, but she was optimistic since it was able to lower its total score. She said the Lions want to aim for around 305 in the future.
Penn State using this competition as a jumping-off point for improvements.
"It's a matter of focusing and working hard in practice," St. Pierre said. "We have to all mesh on the same day."
The Lions play again March 7-9 in The Edwin Watts Carolina Classic in Pinehurst, N.C.
