Letter to the Editor
Readers write about 'hateful' comments on gay photograph

In response to Brian Miller's suggestion yesterday ("Showing gays kissing illustrates sinful ways," Feb. 23), I decided to take his advice and read Leviticus 18:22.

Brian seems to believe that two people kissing is an abomination.

Despite the fact that the Bible actually prohibits sex and not kissing, that is not really the point.

The point is that we should be looking to the Bible for all guidance on our moral lives at Penn State.

For instance, I think we should call on President Graham Spanier to conduct an investigation into how shellfish were allowed to be served on this campus, which is also an "abomination."

If you don't agree with me then read Leviticus 11:10. Furthermore, Leviticus 24: 12-23 clearly states that anyone who blasphemes or curses shall be stoned to death by the entire community.

Lastly, I'd like to request that the Undergraduate Student Government petition the governor to allow slavery in this state because that is clearly our right according to the Bible, i.e. Ephesians 6:5 and Leviticus 25:44.

Or maybe this is all a little silly.

Perhaps we shouldn't conduct our public discourse around something that was written by individuals with their own agendas and not ordained by Him.

Perhaps the Bible should be seen as a general affirmation of faith and not a document to be taken entirely literally. Perhaps we should preach and live the values of tolerance and love for thy neighbor because they are the right thing to do as human beings and as members of faith.

Oh, and Brian, if you need someone else to tell you to do just that, you should read Leviticus 19:18.
