Letter to the Editor
Letters respond to alleged racially motivated threats

Thank you to Kyle Tapley ("Presidents Day must not go uncelebrated," Feb. 23) for pointing out the irony in the idea that we as Penn Staters are being accused of being intolerant when the university is now scheduled to have off on Martin Luthor King Day but failed to even recognize a national holiday that everyone relates to through their heritage as an American: Presidents Day. Even the fact that Penn State celebrated its 150th anniversary was shuffled to the side when the Black Caucus responded to a personal attack against an individual. Don't you think that maybe we're taking this tolerance and equality thing all out of hand a bit? If it were back in the day of MLK when there was segregation, then I can understand the need for the administration to get involved campus-wide instead of on an individual basis. However, now we're fighting for equality but we're still drawing the separation of black and white through "redoubling the efforts to increase minority enrollment."

I'm all for equal rights, but what does that mean? Equality means you get accepted into college the same way the rest of us do-off of your grades, SAT scores and past performance -- not your skin color. on race need to as well.
