Man's trial may occur for alleged drug sales

Collegian Staff Writer

A New Jersey man arrested last month for allegedly trying to sell drugs to an undercover police officer was bound over for trial yesterday at Centre County Courthouse, Bellefonte.

Taji Lee, 20, of Newark, N.J., was arrested Jan. 11 near the Laundromat, 141 N. Barnard St., after he allegedly tried to sell cocaine and heroin to an undercover police officer.

He has been held at Centre County Prison in lieu of $1 million bail since his arrest.

Lee is currently charged with six counts of possession with intent to deliver $2,250 worth of cocaine, six counts of possession with intent to deliver $1,050 worth of heroin, seven counts of possession of a controlled substance and four counts of criminal use of a communications facility.

Agent Scott Merrill of the Centre County Drug Task Force testified in court yesterday that he met with Lee on four separate occasions and purchased drugs from him, including cocaine and heroin. According to court documents, the alleged meetings occurred on Nov. 24, Dec. 13, Dec. 30 and Jan. 11.

Merrill said the drugs allegedly purchased from Lee were field tested and sent to the Pennsylvania State Police Crime Lab in Harrisburg, though not all results have been received yet.

"Of all the results we have received, they have been positive for cocaine or heroin," he said.

Lee will be entering a plea on March 21, and a pre-trial conference is scheduled for May 19.
