Letter to the Editor
Wasting society's time on bigotry a huge crime

For the past week I have heard a lot about the controversy surrounding the letter by Chris Kovalchick.

It is sad that in the 8,000 or more years of civilization, we must still face hate that is born of fear, prejudice and ignorance.

Whether we are talking about race, religion or sexuality, the plain and simple truth is that there is no plain and simple truth.

Too many people have already suffered from self-righteous stubbornness on all sides, and I for one don't wish to see more suffering.

We need to accept the fact that we are humans, and that makes us unique individuals.

But, we are also a community, and that makes us one entity, striving for survival.

When we waste our energy dividing ourselves based on differences, we fail to appreciate the humanity of our fellows, whether they are friends or enemies. And I believe that such ignorance is the greatest crime that any of us could commit.
