[ Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005 ] Letter to the Editor
Offense to picture is for different reason
I think there might be a misunderstanding of Chis Kovalchick's letter. It's clear that he was offended by the photo he saw, but you have to wonder why. I suspect, if the photo had been of two stacked lesbians in tiny skirts and belly shirts locked in the throes of passion, Chris and a majority of the heterosexual male Collegian readership would have had little or no problem with the photo. On behalf of all heterosexual males, I would like to apologize for the poor example Chris has displayed. Let's face it, 19-year-old porn star lesbians are not offensive to the rank and file heterosexual male. Despite Chris's statements, it's actually the "real people," the less-than-movie-star-beautiful gay males engaged in lip lock that give heterosexual males the willies. And it's not that we are afraid of them, so please don't cry "homophobia." It's just, well, gross to us. I would think it's about as disturbing to us as getting a lap dance from a naked girl stripper would be to a gay man. It's not what we prefer, so please don't expect us to understand or approve of it. We won't force our ideas of what is right down your throat, please don't try to shove your idea of what's right down ours. Hate only works if you let it. Thomas DuSold
